Trump Announces Halt to Iran Strike

U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday that the planned air and naval operation against the Islamic Republic of Iran, scheduled for Tuesday, has been suspended. The decision follows requests from three Gulf leaders who want to give diplomatic talks a chance.

Leaders who intervened:

  • Emir of Qatar – Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
  • Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia – Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud
  • President of the United Arab Emirates – Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Trump wrote that the Gulf heads assured him that “serious negotiations” could lead to an agreement acceptable to the United States, regional partners and the broader international community.

He emphasized that any deal must contain a strict clause guaranteeing no nuclear weapons for Iran. “That is non‑negotiable,” he added.

Following the request, Trump instructed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Daniel Caine and the U.S. armed forces to stand down and not carry out the attack tomorrow.

Nevertheless, the president warned that U.S. forces remain on “maximum alert” and are ready to launch a full‑scale operation if a satisfactory agreement is not reached.

Just a day earlier, Trump had warned Tehran that failure to negotiate quickly could result in its “complete destruction.”
