U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that American diplomacy is in the "final stretch" of securing a comprehensive agreement with Iran, following a rare cease‑fire that halted mutual strikes two months ago.

Trump’s claim

"We are in the last efforts of what will be a very, very good deal," Trump said, adding that a deal could be signed within "two to three days."

Recent flare‑ups

After 100 days of fighting and a fragile cease‑fire that took effect on 8 April, explosions rang out again in Tehran and Tel‑Aviv on Sunday and Monday, leaving 15 people injured in Iran, according to the head of the national emergency agency.

Calls for an end to hostilities

Facing increasing domestic pressure ahead of the mid‑term elections, Trump urged both Iran and Israel to halt the fighting "immediately." Tehran first announced the suspension of its military operation against Israel, and Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that "hostilities on this front have ceased" at the time of the statement.

Signs of calm

  • The main international airport in Tehran reported a "return to normal" operating conditions on Tuesday morning after the country’s airspace, which had been partially closed over the weekend, was reopened.
  • Within 24 hours, Iran launched about thirty missiles toward Israel, according to an Israeli military official, in retaliation for an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. The attack killed two people and wounded 20.
  • Iran’s armed forces command later announced the "cessation of the operation," describing it as a "severe response" to Israel, but warned that any further aggression, including in southern Lebanon, would trigger "much harsher and repressive actions."

Market context

The latest diplomatic overtures come as oil prices have been volatile, with Brent hovering above $97 per barrel after recent Israeli‑Iranian tensions.
