AfDB and OCP Sign €450 Million Green Credit Guarantee

On 22 May 2026 in Rabat, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the OCP Group signed a partial credit guarantee worth €450 million. The guarantee is intended to back a €530 million green loan that Société Generale and BNP Paribas are mobilising for OCP’s 2023‑2030 investment programme.

The agreement marks a pivotal step for OCP’s long‑term strategy, securing financing from international lenders and paving the way for a suite of climate‑aligned projects.

  • First guarantee of its kind in Morocco, showcasing AfDB’s role as a catalyst for innovative green financing.
  • Supports OCP’s ambition to modernise its value chain, enhance agricultural resilience, and promote sustainable water management.
  • Aligned with AfDB’s four‑cardinal points, especially Point 2 (large‑scale capital mobilisation) and Point 4 (development of resilient, value‑creating infrastructure).

Achraf Tarsim, AfDB country office head for Morocco, said the deal reaffirms the bank’s commitment to OCP’s investment plan, leveraging its AAA rating to mobilise international capital for low‑carbon fertilizer production, renewable energy deployment and sustainable water management.

Younes Kchia, CFO of OCP, highlighted that the guarantee moves the group into the deployment phase, enabling investments that protect soils, preserve resources and bolster food security across Morocco, Africa and the globe.

The mobilised funds will finance projects that cut greenhouse‑gas emissions, expand renewable‑energy capacity, and improve the energy‑ and water‑efficiency of OCP’s industrial facilities. They will also promote sustainable farming practices, soil conservation and a low‑carbon industrial growth model.
