Morocco's automotive market has hit the brakes after several consecutive months of strong expansion, recording a modest growth rate in August 2026 that signals a potential shift in market dynamics.
August Registrations Show Minimal Growth
Vehicle registrations reached 14,979 units during August, representing a marginal year-over-year increase of just 0.9%. This performance marks a dramatic deceleration from the robust growth witnessed in preceding months, where July recorded 5.2% growth and June achieved an impressive 16.7% expansion.
Year-to-Date Performance Remains Strong
Despite the August slowdown, the cumulative figures for the first eight months of 2026 paint a more optimistic picture. Total deliveries reached 167,465 vehicles, translating to a solid 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Segment-Specific Analysis
Breaking down the performance by vehicle category reveals nuanced trends:
- Passenger Vehicles (VP): This segment delivered 147,603 units through August, posting a 13.5% year-over-year increase and continuing to dominate the market.
- Light Commercial Vehicles (VUL): The utility segment demonstrated stronger momentum with 19,862 units sold, achieving a notable 19.8% growth rate that outpaced passenger vehicle sales.
The contrast between August's tepid performance and the year-to-date strength suggests seasonal factors or market saturation may be influencing short-term demand, while underlying fundamentals remain supportive of continued sector expansion.
