Crédit Agricole du Maroc: Net Banking Income Drops 24% Despite Strong Credit Growth in H1 2026

Crédit Agricole du Maroc reported contrasting results for the first half of 2026, with outstanding loans surging over 20% year-on-year to reach 136 billion dirhams by June. However, the banking group's consolidated net banking income fell 24% to 2 billion dirhams, pressured by unfavorable international conditions and interest rate headwinds. Despite revenue challenges, the bank continued expanding its deposit base, which grew 7% to 129 billion dirhams, driven primarily by current account growth.

Crédit Agricole du Maroc's financial performance in the first half of 2026 tells a story of two diverging trends: robust lending activity offset by declining profitability amid challenging market conditions.

Outstanding Loan Growth Accelerates

The banking group reported that total outstanding loans reached 136 billion dirhams by the end of June 2026, compared to 113 billion dirhams in the same period last year. This represents a year-on-year increase of more than 20%, signaling aggressive expansion in lending operations.

According to the group, this lending momentum reflects its strategic commitment to supporting financing across all economic sectors while maintaining its traditional focus on agriculture and rural development—areas that remain core to the bank's identity and mission.

Deposit Base Expands Steadily

On the funding side, Crédit Agricole du Maroc also demonstrated positive momentum. Total deposits reached 129 billion dirhams at the end of June, up from 121 billion dirhams a year earlier—a growth rate of approximately 7%.

The bank highlighted that this increase was driven particularly by strong growth in demand deposits (current accounts), which the institution views as beneficial for improving the overall structure and stability of its deposit base.

Net Banking Income Under Pressure

Despite the operational growth, the group's revenue picture was less favorable. Consolidated net banking income fell to 2 billion dirhams, down approximately 24% from the 2.65 billion dirhams recorded in the first half of 2025.

Management attributed this significant decline to adverse international market conditions and unfavorable interest rate dynamics that weighed on margins throughout the period.

On a standalone basis, the parent company's net banking income stood at 1.9 billion dirhams, compared to 2.6 billion dirhams in the prior-year period—representing a decline of roughly 26%.

Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships

The first half of 2026 was marked by several strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the bank's position in rural and agricultural financing. During the International Agricultural Show in Morocco, Crédit Agricole du Maroc signed multiple partnership agreements.

Key partnerships included collaborations with:

  • The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
  • CAM/Cambiar
  • Fondation Ardi, focused on microfinance
  • Tamwilcom, a credit guarantee institution

These alliances underscore the bank's ongoing commitment to supporting Morocco's agricultural sector and expanding financial inclusion in rural areas, despite the revenue headwinds facing the broader organization.
