Morocco New Car Sales Surge 15.7% Year‑to‑Date, Electrified and Chinese Brands Lead the Rise

New‑car registrations in Morocco jumped 15.7% in the first seven months of 2026, reaching 152,486 units. The growth was driven by a strong performance of electrified models – up 86% YoY – and a rapid rise of Chinese‑brand vehicles, which now hold more than 11% of the market. July alone saw a modest 5.2% increase over last year, while passenger‑car sales continued to dominate the market at 88.5% of total registrations.

Year‑to‑date sales hit 152,486 units

According to the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), 152,486 new cars were registered in the first seven months of 2026, up 15.7% from the same period in 2025 (131,739 units).

July 2026 sees a modest monthly rise

In July alone, 20,738 vehicles were sold, a 5.2% increase over July 2025. The growth slowed after June’s 16.7% surge.

  • Passenger cars (PC): 18,085 units (+2.1% YoY)
  • Light commercial vehicles (LCV): 2,653 units (+32.3% YoY)

Since the start of the year, passenger‑car registrations total 134,887 units (+15.3%), while LCVs reached 17,599 units (+19.5%). Passenger cars account for 88.5% of the market, LCVs 11.5%.

Electrified vehicles keep gaining ground

Electrified models recorded 22,963 registrations by end‑July, an 86.3% year‑on‑year jump. They represent 17% of passenger‑car sales, up from 10.5% a year earlier.

  • Plug‑in hybrid (PHEV): 7,131 units (+145%)
  • Mild‑hybrid (MHEV): 4,000 units (+70.4%)
  • Battery‑electric (BEV): 1,213 units (+99.2%)

Additionally, 1,402 range‑extended electric vehicles (REEV) were registered. BEV and REEV together now make up 1.9% of passenger‑car sales.

Chinese manufacturers cement their rise

The 21 Chinese brands on the market logged 15,161 passenger‑car registrations from January to July 2026, a 151.8% increase YoY, raising their market share to 11.2% (vs. 5.1% in July 2025).

In July alone, Chinese‑brand vehicles reached 2,013 units, up 62% versus the previous year.

Context

2025 was a record year with 235,372 total registrations (+33.4% over 2024), underscoring the accelerating pace of Morocco’s automotive sector.
