The Board of Directors of the Fédération Interprofessionnelle Marocaine du Sucre (FIMASUCRE) convened on Monday, 19 January 2026, chaired by Mr. Hassan Mounir. The meeting opened with a review of the current sugar campaign, which has benefited from significant rainfall across several key production basins. These rains have markedly improved Morocco’s water reserves, creating favourable conditions for the ongoing agricultural season and raising expectations for expanded sugar‑cane acreage.
Farewell to Hassan Mounir
The Board formally acknowledged Mr. Mounir’s decision to step down as president. Members paid tribute to his decisive role in advancing the inter‑professional sector and the country’s sugar crops. As former Deputy General Manager of the sugar subsidiaries and later General Director of COSUMAR, Mounir led strategic initiatives that embraced new technologies, digitised the value chain and reshaped the industrial platform. His efforts contributed to higher agricultural performance, increased farmer incomes and stronger resilience for the national sugar industry.
Imad Ghammad elected President
Following the tribute, the Board elected Mr. Imad Ghammad as the new President of FIMASUCRE. Ghammad, currently General Manager of the COSUMAR Group, brings deep, recognised expertise in the sugar sector, particularly in structuring and developing upstream agriculture. His record includes:
- Launching programmes that boost yields and optimise agronomic pathways;
- Strengthening advisory and support mechanisms for farmers;
- Integrating innovative solutions and advanced farm‑management tools;
- Improving resource efficiency and enhancing the competitiveness of sugar crops.
Through his election, the Board reaffirms its commitment to a high‑performing, competitive and sustainable sugar value chain that serves both growers and Morocco’s food‑security goals.
