Marsa Maroc and CMA CGM Finalize West Nador Terminal Deal, Strengthening Morocco’s Mediterranean Gateway
Marsa Maroc and CMA Terminals, a CMA CGM subsidiary, have sealed a partnership to operate the newly built West Container Terminal at Nador West Med, a strategic Mediterranean hub. The deal gives Marsa Maroc a 51% stake and 51% voting rights, while CMA Terminals holds 49%. Expected to be fully operational by 2027, the 60‑hectare facility will feature 900 m of quay line, 18‑m depth, eight Ship‑to‑Shore terminals, and a 1.8 million‑TEU annual capacity. The alliance leverages CMA CGM’s global reach and Marsa Maroc’s local expertise to boost Morocco’s trade connectivity and position Nador as a next‑generation transshipment node.

New Joint Venture
The Moroccan port operator Marsa Maroc and its subsidiary CMA Terminals from the global shipping group CMA CGM have signed a partnership agreement to manage the West Container Terminal at Nador West Med, a major strategic hub on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco.
Capital Structure
Following the earlier signing of a global convention between the Tanger Med Group and CMA CGM on 28 October 2024, both parties will now bring CMA Terminals into the ownership of the terminal concession. Upon final approval by regulators, Marsa Maroc will hold 51 % of the shares and voting rights, and CMA Terminals will own the remaining 49 %.
Terminal Specifications
The facility, expected to become fully operational in 2027, will cover approximately 60 hectares. Key features include:
- 900 m of quay line
- Depth of 18 m
- 37.5 ha of container yard
- 8 Ship‑to‑Shore rail (STS) terminals
- Annual handling capacity of 1.8 million TEU
Strategic Impact
This alliance combines the global reach of CMA CGM with the local knowledge and network of Marsa Maroc. It positions Nador West Med as a next‑generation transshipment hub and reinforces Morocco’s attractiveness across the world’s major maritime links, benefitting from its proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bay of Betoya.
