AI, Fintech and Green Data-Centres Dominate Africa’s Flagship Tech Show

Marrakech’s Palmeraie Expo Centre opened its doors on Tuesday to the fourth GITEX Africa Morocco, the continent’s largest gathering of technology vendors, venture capitalists and policy makers. Running through 9 April, the 2026 edition has already surpassed pre-registration records with 50 000 delegates, 1 450 exhibitors and delegations from 130 countries, organisers KAOUN International said.

High-Patronage Ceremony Sets Ambitious Agenda

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch delivered the opening keynote before an audience that included ministers for finance, industry and digital transition, sovereign-wealth funds, telecom regulators and the heads of the continent’s top-20 start-ups. Under the theme “Catalysing the African Digital Economy in the AI Era”, the show positions Morocco as a bridge between global innovation hubs and African markets seeking sovereign, scalable solutions.

New Verticals Debut as Deal-Flow Surges

Among the new zones turning heads on day one:

  • Smart Data-Centre Infrastructure: Modular, solar-powered server farms designed to plug Africa’s hosting gap and cut latency for fintech and cloud giants.
  • Fintech & Future of Finance Pavilion: Mobile-money, AI-driven credit scoring and cross-border remittance start-ups vie for a slice of the US$ 50 billion annual African fintech revenue pool.
  • Future Mobility Lab: Electric, autonomous and connected-vehicle pilots from Moroccan, South-African and Korean manufacturers eye the continent’s 1.3 billion consumers.
  • Sports-Tech Hub: IoT performance trackers, smart stadium financing and NFT fan-engagement platforms targeting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Cyber-Security and Sovereign AI Take Centre Stage

GITEX’s Strategic Digital Defence AI Readiness (STAR) summit, co-designed with Morocco’s DGSSI, unveiled a draft framework for protecting critical infrastructure against AI-generated threats. Enterprise adoption of the framework is expected to unlock US$ 400 million in cyber-security contracts across North and West Africa over the next 18 months, according to consulting firm Delta Partners.

Investment Outlook

With Morocco’s tech sector growing 12 % annually and a government target of 200 000 digital jobs by 2030, GITEX Africa 2026 is more than a trade fair—it is a capital-raising engine. Venture-capital trackers report 300 African start-ups on site seeking seed to Series C funding, while the Moroccan Agency for Digital Development (ADD) has ring-fenced a 1 billion MAD (US$ 100 million) co-investment fund for local scale-ups.

Market watchers flag the debut of dollar-denominated African tech ETFs on the Casablanca Stock Exchange later this year as a direct outcome of investor momentum generated at GITEX.
