Marsa Maroc Enters Drewry’s Regional Operators Panel and Holds Its African Top-Four Position
Drewry has added Marsa Maroc to its Regional Terminal Operators panel in the latest Global Container Terminal Operators analysis, recognizing the Moroccan group as a leading African port operator and investor. The distinction follows a third consecutive year in Africa’s top four container terminal operators. Traffic at Tanger Med, Casablanca and Agadir exceeded 3 million TEUs in 2025, while two Nador West Med transshipment terminals with more than 5 million TEUs of combined capacity point to a substantial medium-term growth pipeline.

Drewry adds Marsa Maroc to its regional panel
Marsa Maroc has joined Drewry’s Regional Terminal Operators panel in the latest Global Container Terminal Operators analysis. The Moroccan group is also identified among the sector’s leading port operators and investors in Africa, marking a new stage in its development beyond the domestic market.
Drewry added Marsa Maroc alongside Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminals, noting that both companies secured overseas terminal investments from 2024. Inclusion in the panel reflects the scale and geographic reach of their container-terminal operations.
African top-four ranking confirmed
The report keeps Marsa Maroc in fourth place among Africa’s largest container terminal operators for the third consecutive year. This position is supported by the sustained performance of its facilities at Tanger Med, Casablanca and Agadir.
- Third consecutive year: Marsa Maroc remains in Africa’s top four container terminal operators.
- Record activity: Combined traffic across its Tanger Med, Casablanca and Agadir terminals surpassed 3 million TEUs for the first time in 2025.
- Regional recognition: Drewry now includes the group among the regional operators it monitors.
Nador West Med as the next growth catalyst
The forthcoming commissioning of two dedicated container-transshipment terminals at Nador West Med opens a new development phase. With combined capacity above 5 million TEUs, the projects could significantly expand Marsa Maroc’s operational scale and strengthen its role in regional and international shipping routes.
From national operator to regional platform
Drewry’s recognition reflects Marsa Maroc’s transition from a predominantly Moroccan port operator into a platform with regional and international ambitions. Overseas investments secured since 2024, together with expanding traffic and infrastructure capacity, underline this strategic shift.
Opportunities and execution risks
The ranking should improve the group’s visibility among shipping lines and investors and support its competitiveness in a market where competition for terminal investments is intensifying. The medium-term benefits will nevertheless depend on timely project delivery, the pace of traffic ramp-up and disciplined capital allocation.
