To mark World Environment Day, TAQA Morocco for Community has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) aimed at catalyzing breakthrough ideas for sustainable water management across the Kingdom.
Why the call matters
Morocco faces growing water scarcity, recurring droughts and mounting pressure on rural water infrastructure. The programme seeks to harness the national innovation ecosystem to address these challenges and strengthen the country’s water security.
Who can apply
Eligibility is open to Moroccan start‑ups at seed or growth stage, as well as university students, PhD candidates and early‑career researchers. Applicants must propose solutions that fit one of three focus areas:
- Ensuring safe drinking water in vulnerable regions;
- Improving treatment processes and water quality;
- Reducing losses and optimizing the management of water resources.
Digital‑technology emphasis
Projects that embed smart sensors, data analytics or artificial‑intelligence tools will receive special consideration, reflecting TAQA’s belief that digital innovation can deliver field‑ready, scalable impact.
Prizes and timeline
Two awards will be granted – a Start‑up Award and a Researcher Award. Winners will receive a laptop, a cash prize (part of a total MAD 300,000 pool), and mentorship to accelerate their projects. The award ceremony is slated for 4 December 2026, with applications closing at the end of August 2026.
In addition, the champions will gain access to the 2027 World Water Forum in Riyadh, providing a global stage for their innovations.
Strategic significance
This initiative reinforces TAQA Morocco’s ESG positioning and signals increasing private‑sector interest in tech‑driven solutions to Morocco’s water stress.
