Marsa Maroc Expands Casablanca Port with 230-Meter Quay Extension
Marsa Maroc has announced the completion of the first phase of its quay deepening project at the multipurpose terminal in Casablanca Port. This project involved deepening 230 linear meters of quay to a depth of 12 meters, enabling the port to accommodate ships with a capacity of up to 60,000 tons for the first time in its history.
Previously, the port could only handle vessels with a capacity of around 35,000 tons. This significant upgrade is expected to reduce logistics costs for clients and enhance Morocco's logistics competitiveness by providing modern and efficient port infrastructure.
The quay deepening project is part of Marsa Maroc's broader 2030 investment plan aimed at strengthening the attractiveness and competitiveness of its terminals. The first phase of the project has been completed, with plans to extend the deepened quay to 530 meters by the second quarter of 2028.
The overall project, with a budget of 475 million dirhams, will increase the terminal's capacity to over 8 million tons. This expansion, combined with the reinforcement of equipment and various operational improvements, will enhance the fluidity of port calls, reduce vessel processing times, and optimize terminal performance. These improvements will lead to lower logistics costs for clients and support their competitiveness in their respective markets.
Marsa Maroc's investment in modernizing its terminals underscores its commitment to supporting the growth of its clients and Morocco's foreign trade by developing modern and efficient port infrastructure.
