Casablanca Stock Exchange: Foreign Investment Surges, 12 Companies Over 50% Owned by Overseas Investors
Foreign investment in the Casablanca Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced a significant rebound in 2024, driven by the strong performance of the MASI index, which surged by over 22%. The total value of foreign-held portfolios reached 182 billion dirhams, a 7.8% increase from the previous year, now representing 24.1% of the total market capitalization. This growth signifies renewed international confidence, largely concentrated in strategic holdings within key sectors. Notably, 12 listed companies on the CSE are more than 50% owned by foreign investors, collectively accounting for 63% of all foreign capital and 15.1% of the total market capitalization. These strategic participations, particularly in sectors like Electricity, Telecommunications, and Beverages, underscore a targeted approach by international investors, reshaping the ownership landscape of Morocco's premier stock exchange.
