Iran assesses conditions for renewed nuclear talks
Iranian foreign‑ministry officials said on Monday they are studying the prerequisites for a fresh round of negotiations with the United States. Both Tehran and Washington have publicly expressed willingness to discuss the nuclear dossier in order to keep the risk of a fresh Middle‑East war at bay.
U.S. demands and military pressure
President Donald Trump, who has refrained from acting on earlier threats to intervene during recent anti‑government protests, insists that Tehran must make substantial concessions before talks can move forward. He has also intensified military pressure by sending a carrier strike group to the region.
According to Reuters, Trump has laid out three non‑negotiable conditions:
- Complete halt of Iran’s uranium enrichment activities.
- Limitation of Iran’s ballistic‑missile programme.
- End of Tehran’s support for proxy forces such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis.
Trump claimed last week that “serious talks” were already underway after senior Iranian parliamentarian Ali Larijani posted on X that discussions were ongoing.
Both sides remain cautious, but the diplomatic overture could reshape regional security dynamics if the preconditions are met.
