Market Indices Tumble as Technical Support Gives Way
The Casablanca Stock Exchange wrapped up the trading week on a decisively negative note Friday, with the flagship MASI index surrendering 1.57% to close at 17,303.69 points. The decline confirms mounting investor nervousness and marks the breach of a critical technical support level, pulling the benchmark closer to its March troughs. Year-to-date, the MASI now sits at a -8.19% deficit.
Broad-Based Weakness Across the Board
No major index was spared. The MASI 20, tracking the 20 most liquid stocks, shed 1.64% to 1,249.35 points, while the MASI Mid Small index bore the brunt of the selling pressure, plummeting 2.18% to 1,679.86 points. Even the ESG-focused MASI ESG slipped 1.64% to 1,280.56 points, though it retains a modest +2.32% gain since January.
Market Capitalization and Liquidity Snapshot
Despite the rout, the overall market valuation remains substantial at 1,019,083,951,791 dirhams, underscoring the depth of listed assets. Cash market turnover totaled 259,660,323 dirhams, with the bulk of activity concentrated on the central order book, reflecting intraday arbitrage and liquidity-driven flows.
