Crédit du Maroc Teams Up with EBRD on €50 Million Green Finance Initiative for Morocco’s Energy Transition

Crédit du Maroc has sealed a strategic partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under the GEFF Plus programme. The agreement creates a €50 million financing line aimed at Moroccan companies that are investing in energy‑efficiency, renewable‑energy, water‑saving and green‑building projects. Participants can obtain subsidies of up to 15 % of the investment cost, technical assistance, and loans of up to €15 million per sub‑project, reinforcing Morocco’s ambition to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The partnership also expands Crédit du Maroc’s portfolio of green‑finance products, building on earlier lines such as Green Value Chain and GEFF 2, and reflects both banks’ commitment to mobilising private‑sector capital for climate‑resilient growth.

Strategic partnership to boost green investments

Crédit du Maroc has signed a strategic agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under the GEFF Plus programme. The deal creates a €50 million financing line dedicated to Moroccan companies pursuing energy‑transition projects.

The line will cover a broad spectrum of sustainable initiatives, including energy efficiency upgrades, renewable‑energy installations, water‑saving measures and green construction. Eligible firms can receive a grant covering up to 15 % of the investment cost and benefit from technical assistance throughout the project lifecycle.

For larger undertakings—particularly in the renewable‑energy sector—loans of up to €15 million per sub‑project are available. Ali Chorfi, member of Crédit du Maroc’s board responsible for Corporate & Investment Banking, highlighted that the programme builds on previous GEFF offerings and supports the bank’s responsible‑growth strategy.

Technical support to accelerate the transition

Beyond financing, GEFF Plus provides hands‑on advisory services: project structuring, eco‑design guidance and access to energy‑transition experts. This support aims to help Moroccan SMEs and larger firms meet the national “Climate Change” circular issued by Bank Al‑Maghrib and the broader goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Greg Guyett, EVP at the EBRD, underscored the partnership’s role in unlocking private‑sector investment for climate‑resilient and low‑carbon technologies, reinforcing Morocco’s sustainable‑development agenda.

Crédit du Maroc continues to embed green‑finance mechanisms across its product suite, with existing lines such as Green Value Chain and GEFF 2 already financing renewable‑energy, green‑building and water‑conservation projects since 2020.
