In a notable achievement for Moroccan financial leadership, Abdellatif Jouahri, the Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, has been recognized among the top 25 central bank governors worldwide according to Global Finance magazine's prestigious 2026 Central Banker Report Cards.

The New York-based publication awarded Jouahri an 'A-' rating in its comprehensive annual assessment, which has been evaluating central banking leadership since 1994. This distinction makes him the only central bank chief from North Africa to earn this high-level grade in the current rankings.

Comprehensive Global Evaluation

The Central Banker Report Cards provide an extensive evaluation of monetary policy leaders from nearly 100 countries, territories, and key jurisdictions. The assessment also includes governors from multinational monetary authorities such as the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States, and the Central Bank of West African States.

Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance, emphasized the challenging environment facing today's central bankers. "Governors of central banks face a complex balancing act," he noted, explaining that these leaders must "navigate persistent inflationary pressures, uncertain growth, and rapidly evolving economic conditions while maintaining market and public confidence."

Rigorous Assessment Criteria

Global Finance's grading system employs a comprehensive scale from 'A+' to 'F', evaluating performance across multiple critical dimensions. The methodology examines success in controlling inflation, achieving economic growth objectives, maintaining currency stability, managing interest rates effectively, and preserving independence from political interference.

Jouahri shares the 'A-' rating with an elite group of central banking professionals from diverse economies. Other governors achieving this grade include Gent Sejko from Albania, Santiago Bausili from Argentina, Chea Serey from Cambodia, Aleš Michl from the Czech Republic, and Héctor Valdez Albizu from the Dominican Republic.

The list also features Kamau Thugge of Kenya, Bâle Al-Haroon of Kuwait, Eli Remolona of the Philippines, Adam Glapinski of Poland, Jorgovanka Tabaković of Serbia, Martin Schlegel of Switzerland, Yang Chin-long of Taiwan, Emmanuel Tutuba of Tanzania, and Khaled Mohamed Balama Al Tameemi of the United Arab Emirates.
