MASI Recovers as Mining Sector Leads the Way
The Casablanca Stock Exchange bounced back strongly during Wednesday's trading session. The benchmark MASI index rose by 0.62% to close at 18,892.82 points, completely wiping out its year-to-date losses and moving into positive territory with a 0.25% gain since the start of 2026.
Meanwhile, the MASI 20 — which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks — slipped slightly by 0.58% to 1,352.58 points, signaling that the broader rally was driven more by mid-cap and small-cap names than by blue chips.
Mining Stocks Steal the Spotlight
The star of the session was undoubtedly Managem, which surged 9.99% to hit 15,696 dirhams, establishing a brand-new all-time high. Trading volume for the mining giant reached 164 million dirhams, making it the most actively traded stock of the day.
SMI (Société Métallurgique d'Imini) was not far behind, delivering the strongest percentage gain of the session at +9.73%, with shares rising to 12,660 dirhams. The Compagnie Minière de Touissit (CMT) also posted impressive gains, climbing 9.22% to 5,449 dirhams and generating 60 million dirhams in turnover.
Retail investors also showed interest in LabelVie, which rounded out the top three in trading volume with 25 million dirhams exchanged.
Notable Decliners
Not all stocks shared in the optimism. Salafin was the main underperformer of the session, declining by 4.52% to 460.5 dirhams.
A Healthy Recovery
Overall, the Casablanca market demonstrated solid momentum, with total trading volume on the central market reaching 409 million dirhams. The recovery of the MASI, fueled primarily by the mining sector, marks a turning point after a difficult start to the year and suggests renewed investor appetite for Moroccan equities.
