Leadership Change at AMIC

During its General Assembly held on June 29, 2026, the Moroccan Association of Capital Investors (AMIC) elected a fresh board of directors. The newly‑appointed board unanimously chose Omar Bekkali, senior director at AfricInvest, as the association’s president.

Bekkali replaces Hassan Laaziri, who will stay on the AMIC board as a director. The change is presented as a continuity move for an organization that has been championing the growth of private equity in Morocco for nearly 25 years.

With 19 years of experience in investment and financing—16 of which were spent at AfricInvest—Bekkali is well‑acquainted with the sector’s challenges. He has played a key role in raising and deploying local and regional investment vehicles, and his prior service on AMIC’s board during the two previous mandates equips him with deep institutional knowledge.

In his inaugural statement, Bekkali pledged to continue the strategic projects already underway, strengthen the role of the association’s committees, and make AMIC “more unifying, agile, and supportive of its members.” His vision is to help build a high‑performing, innovative private‑equity industry that creates value for the Moroccan economy.

Laaziri’s two‑year term was praised by his successor for its dynamism and commitment. Under his leadership, AMIC reinforced its partnerships with entrepreneurs, public authorities, investors, and fund managers, while boosting the visibility of Moroccan private equity across Africa.

Laaziri highlighted that the achievements of his mandate stemmed from collective effort among the members, the board, the committees, and constructive dialogue with institutional partners. He extended his best wishes to the new bureau chaired by Bekkali.

New AMIC Executive Team

The newly formed executive team includes Meriem Zairi, Managing Partner at EmergingTech Ventures, as Vice‑President, and Najate Berrada, General Manager of Upline Investments, as Treasurer. The board of directors also counts Hassan Laaziri, Khaoula Ramdi, Nabil Hayat and Mohammed Nasset. Tarik Haddi and Omar Laalej have been appointed as observers.

Since its inception, AMIC claims to have supported 370 companies and facilitated the raising of over MAD 40 billion for enterprises and infrastructure projects, delivering both financial and ESG impact. The new mandate aims to preserve this momentum and further cement private equity as a key financing lever for Morocco’s economy.
