17 September 2026 — Banque Populaire has launched La Populaire Numberless, a card it presents as Morocco’s first without a printed card number or visible security code. The design is intended to limit fraudulent use if the physical card is lost, stolen, or photographed.
Payment data kept inside Pocket Bank
Unlike conventional cards, the physical support does not display its number or CVV. The associated sensitive information can be accessed exclusively through the secured Pocket Bank mobile application, combining restricted access with continued availability for authorized customers.
- No printed card number or visible security code
- Sensitive data accessible only through Pocket Bank
- Reduced fraud risk associated with theft, loss, or photography
- A simpler and more secure payment experience
Third payments innovation in 2026
The launch follows two other digital payment solutions introduced by the group this year. La Virtuelle is a multi-purpose virtual card that supports contactless payments in stores through Apple Pay and Google Pay. L’Instant is a one-time ephemeral card available through Pocket Bank.
BCP targets a leading digital payments position
Idriss Bensmail, BCP’s general manager responsible for retail banking, said the product reflects the group’s aim to anticipate technological changes in payments and convert them into practical security tools for customers. The bank claims a pioneering position in Morocco’s numberless card segment. However, the announcement did not provide rollout scope, pricing, eligibility criteria, or adoption targets, leaving the near-term financial impact unclear.
