Casablanca Stock Exchange Launches Groundbreaking Survey of Retail Investors
At the APSB’s annual conference, the Casablanca Stock Exchange announced a comprehensive study aimed at mapping the profile, risk appetite and digital habits of retail investors. The initiative comes as individual investors have surged from roughly 10 % to almost 30 % of trading volume in just two years, driven by online platforms, high‑profile IPOs and a strong equity market. The study will feed into tailored education programmes, protective measures and market‑depth strategies, aligning with the AMMC’s recent priorities to broaden participation while safeguarding confidence during market corrections.

Casablanca Stock Exchange Announces a First‑of‑Its‑Kind Retail Investor Study
During the annual conference of the Professional Association of Brokerage Firms (APSB) this morning, Nasser Seddiqi, CEO of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, unveiled a new research project that will dissect the profile and behavior of individual investors in Morocco.
According to the data presented, the share of retail traders in total turnover has jumped from roughly 10 % to almost 30 % in just two years. This rapid growth is attributed to the digitalisation of trading platforms, heavily publicised IPOs and a renewed appetite for equities amid a favourable market performance.
The 2024 figures released by the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC) show that there were 230,604 securities accounts, with 87 % belonging to resident individuals.
Why the Study Matters
- Understanding the investor profile: investment horizon, risk tolerance, reaction to market rallies and corrections, and use of digital tools.
- Adapting market support mechanisms: education programmes, investor‑protection measures and tailored communication.
The findings will enable the exchange to roll out targeted, personalised actions in partnership with all ecosystem players, ensuring that the democratisation of equity investing does not erode confidence, especially during periods of volatility.
This initiative also echoes the recent priorities outlined by the AMMC, reinforcing the need for broader financial education and deeper market liquidity.
Looking Ahead
Beyond a statistical snapshot, the Casablanca Stock Exchange aims to anticipate market cycles more accurately. A wider investor base brings liquidity and depth, but it also calls for stronger financial literacy and a clearer public understanding of market mechanics.
Stakeholders can expect new educational tools, improved digital interfaces and tighter safeguards for retail participants as the study’s recommendations are implemented.
