Morocco's May CPI Climbs 1.2% YoY, Food Prices Drop While Non‑Food Items Rise
Morocco’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.2 % in May 2026 compared with May 2025, driven by a 2.6 % jump in non‑food prices while food prices slipped 0.7 %. On a month‑to‑month basis the CPI fell 0.9 % due to a 2.1 % decline in food items, with the non‑food basket holding steady. Core inflation, which strips out volatile goods, edged up 0.3 % from April but was 0.1 % lower than a year earlier.

Overall CPI increase
According to the High Commission for Planning (HCP), Morocco’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.2 % in May 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier.
Drivers of the change
The rise reflects a 2.6 % gain in the non‑food price index, offset by a 0.7 % decline in the food price index.
Month‑over‑month movement
Compared with April, the CPI fell 0.9 % in May. The drop stems from a 2.1 % fall in food prices while the non‑food index remained flat.

Regional CPI variations
The strongest declines were recorded in Safi (‑2.1 %) and Beni‑Mellal (‑1.3 %). Other cities saw modest drops ranging from ‑0.2 % in Oujda to ‑1.2 % in Casablanca, Tanger and Al‑Hoceima.
Core inflation
The underlying inflation rate, which excludes volatile items and regulated prices, rose 0.3 % month‑over‑month in May but was 0.1 % lower than May 2025.
