Morocco's Manufacturing Sector Sees 0.4% Price Increase in August 2026
Morocco's manufacturing production price index rose by 0.4% in August 2026 compared to the previous month, driven primarily by gains in metallurgy and chemical industries. According to the High Commission for Planning (HCP), metallurgy led the increase with a 1.5% rise, while the chemical sector posted a 1.4% gain, reaching an index level of 141.2—among the highest in the manufacturing sector. The overall industrial landscape showed mixed performance, with some sectors advancing while apparel manufacturing experienced a decline.

Morocco's manufacturing sector experienced a modest price uptick in August 2026, as the production price index for manufacturing industries—excluding petroleum refining—climbed 0.4% month-over-month, according to recent data released by the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
Metallurgy and Chemicals Drive Growth
The monthly increase was predominantly fueled by two key sectors. Metallurgy posted the strongest performance with a 1.5% rise, while the chemical industry sector followed closely with a 1.4% increase, pushing its index to 141.2—one of the sector's highest recorded levels. These two industries were the primary contributors to the overall manufacturing price expansion.
Broad-Based but Uneven Gains
Additional upward pressure came from several other manufacturing segments. The HCP's report on the Industrial, Energy, and Mining Production Price Index (IPPIEM) for August 2026 revealed that:
- Electrical equipment manufacturing saw prices rise by 0.3%
- Food industries recorded a 0.2% increase
- Automotive manufacturing posted a marginal 0.1% gain
However, not all sectors participated in the upward trend. The apparel industry bucked the trend, registering a 0.7% decline in production prices during the same period.
Stability in Energy and Mining
Outside the manufacturing sphere, price stability characterized other major industrial segments. The indices for extractive industries, electricity production and distribution, and water production all remained flat throughout August 2026, showing no month-over-month variation.
This mixed performance across Morocco's industrial landscape reflects the diverse dynamics affecting different sectors, with heavy industries and chemicals experiencing inflationary pressures while consumer-facing sectors like apparel face different market conditions.
