The Casablanca Stock Exchange experienced a difficult trading session on Friday, with the main MASI index retreating 0.91% to close at 18,615.24 points. This decline wiped out recent gains and pushed the index's year-to-date performance deeper into negative territory at -1.23%.

Futures Market Under Pressure

The derivatives market mirrored the cash market's weakness, with futures contracts on the MASI 20 index recording significant losses across all maturities. The June 2027 contract fell 1% to 1,332.80 points, while the March 2027 contract declined 0.99% to 1,335 points. Near-term contracts for September and December 2026 dropped 0.97% and 1.01% respectively, settling at 1,339.70 and 1,337.20 points.

Trading Activity and Market Capitalization

Cash market trading volumes reached MAD 302.16 million for the session, while overall market capitalization stood at MAD 1,094.38 billion, reflecting the scale of Morocco's equity market.

Top Gainers Lead Mixed Performance

Despite the broader market decline, several stocks posted notable gains. ARD emerged as the session's top performer, surging 8.60% to MAD 480. SAH followed with a solid 6.06% advance to MAD 3,170, while PRO added 2.45% to reach MAD 1,379. CFG climbed 1.44% to MAD 211, and STR rounded out the gainers list with a 1.42% increase to MAD 181.50.

Significant Decliners Weigh on Market

On the losing side, DHO suffered the steepest decline, tumbling 3.45% to MAD 53.10. BCI fell 3.05% to MAD 600, while LBV dropped 3.04% to MAD 4,150. CMG decreased 2.86% to MAD 323, and MNG closed down 2.78% at MAD 1,750, representing the session's most significant losers.

The broad-based selloff suggests investor caution continues to dominate sentiment at the Casablanca bourse, with profit-taking and risk-off positioning overwhelming selective buying interest in individual names.
