MSCI's 2026 Review Leaves Morocco Unchanged
MSCI released its annual market classification review for 2026 on Tuesday evening, confirming that the North African kingdom's equity market will remain in the Frontier Markets universe. The country was not listed among the markets slated for reclassification, nor is it under active surveillance for a possible upgrade to Emerging Markets.
The index provider highlighted that its 2026 review focused primarily on Bulgaria, Indonesia, Turkey, Bangladesh, South Korea and Greece. The only notable change was Bulgaria’s shift from a Standalone Market to a Frontier Market, a move that will take effect in the May 2027 review cycle.
MSCI also indicated that it continues to monitor a handful of other markets for future classification decisions, but Morocco was not among them.
