Deepened Quays at Casablanca Terminal Enable First 55,000‑ton Sugar Ship
On 15 June 2026, Marsa Maroc welcomed a bulk carrier of roughly 55,000 tonnes, chartered by Groupe Cosumar, at its newly upgraded multifunctional terminal in the Port of Casablanca. The vessel, a 200‑metre sugar‑bulk ship, marks the first large‑capacity call since the inaugural phase of the quay‑deepening project was completed.
The renovation lowered the water draft to 12 metres, allowing the terminal to handle vessels up to 60,000 tonnes. Currently, 230 metres of quay have been rehabilitated and deepened, with a target of 530 metres by 2028, which would raise the terminal’s annual handling capacity to more than 8 million tonnes.
