EIB Boosts Nador West Med Project with €2.1 Million Grant to Accelerate Digitalisation and Sustainable Infrastructure

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has signed a €2.1 million grant agreement with Nador West Med (NWM) and the Bétoya Industrial & Logistic Zone (BILZ) to fast‑track the launch of the new industrial‑port complex in northern Morocco. The funding will back a technical cooperation programme that focuses on digitalising the zone’s management processes, embedding resilient and green infrastructure, and bolstering the skills of NWM’s staff. The initiative builds on a €120 million loan granted by the EBRD in 2025 and aims to turn Nador West Med into a competitive, climate‑smart hub for foreign direct investment, industrial activity and job creation across the region.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Grants €2.1 Million to Nador West Med

On Friday, 20 February 2026, the EBRD and the developers of the Nador West Med (NWM) industrial‑logistic hub signed a €2.1 million grant agreement in Rabat. The deal is aimed at strengthening the complex as a dynamic, attractive and sustainable economic zone in northern Morocco.

Key participants: Haytham Eissa, EBRD Director for Morocco, and Mohamed Jamal Benjelloun, CEO of NWM.

What the grant will fund

The money will finance a Technical Cooperation (TC) programme that prepares NWM for the commissioning phase of the industrial‑port complex. This programme complements the €120 million loan the EBRD awarded to NWM in 2025.

  • Digitalisation: Creation of a fully‑automated single‑window platform to streamline investor interactions and reduce procedural bottlenecks.
  • Sustainable infrastructure: Development of a climate‑resilient infrastructure plan that embeds green energy solutions from the design stage onward.
  • Capacity building: Targeted training to boost the technical, managerial and transversal skills of NWM staff, ensuring efficient operation of the port and adjacent activity zones.

Why it matters

The EBRD’s support reflects its commitment to regional development in Morocco and to enhancing the country’s economic competitiveness. By coupling digital innovation, sustainable planning, and workforce development, the grant is expected to position NWM as a premier hub for foreign direct investment, industrial activity and job creation, while delivering long‑term benefits to the surrounding territories.

Background on EBRD in Morocco

Since becoming an operational country in 2012, the EBRD has invested close to €6 billion across 125 projects in Morocco, covering sectors such as renewable energy, transport, and SME development.
