Casablanca Stock Exchange Posts Modest Gain Amid Mining Sector Strength
Thursday's trading session on the Casablanca Stock Exchange saw the main index MASI climb 0.98% to 18,298.70 points, marking a positive turnaround for the benchmark. The rally brought the index's yearly performance to a 2.91% gain since the start of 2026.
The MASI 20, tracking the 20 largest companies, mirrored this upward trend with a 0.66% rise to 1,342.37 points. Despite the gains, market activity remained moderate with total trading volume reaching 268 million dirhams on the central market.
Banking Stocks Mixed Results
Trade focused on financial shares, with BCP leading volume at 164 million dirhams but closing down 1.88% at 263.90 dirhams. Marsa Maroc attracted 29 million dirhams in trades at 869.80 dirhams, while Attijariwafa Bank exchanged hands at 700.00 dirhams.
Mining Sector Outperforms
The session's standout performers were mining stocks, with CMT surging 7.14% to 4,880 dirhams, followed by SMI advancing 6.62% to 6,556 dirhams, and Managem rising 4.23% to 13,612 dirhams. These gains helped offset losses across other sectors.
Losers and Market Cap
Lesieur Cristal was the session's sole decliner among major stocks, falling 5.36% to 350.15 dirhams. At the close, the market's total market capitalization stood at 1,048 billion dirhams.
