Boosting Financial Inclusion Through Technology
The African Development Bank (AfDB), through its Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI), has committed $510,000 to Morocco’s Authority of Control of Insurance and Social Welfare (ACAPS). This strategic grant is designed to lower barriers to insurance products for marginalized groups, specifically focusing on women and young entrepreneurs.
Modernizing the Insurance Landscape
The initiative aims to leverage InsurTech and innovative digital tools to create insurance products that are more transparent and affordable. By providing technical and methodological support, the project will help traditional insurance operators transition toward more efficient, digital-first business models. Key focus areas include:
- Development of tailored insurance solutions for low-income populations.
- Enhancing the regulatory framework to support digital distribution.
- Strengthening the efficiency of market players through technological integration.
Aligning with National Strategy
This partnership is a core component of Morocco’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy (SNIF). According to Achraf Tarsim, the AfDB country manager for Morocco, the grant marks a milestone in promoting digital innovation within the Kingdom's financial ecosystem. Abderrahim Chaffai, President of ACAPS, emphasized that this collaboration ensures the insurance sector remains customer-centric while embracing the digital transformation necessary for modern economic resilience.
A Long-standing Partnership
The AfDB remains a pivotal partner in Morocco's development. Since 1978, the bank has mobilized approximately $16 billion for over 150 projects across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, and financial governance, underscoring its commitment to the nation's socio-economic transformation.
